Air quality

The Production Unit Technology and Environment carries out several kinds of monitorings in air-environment for the detection of air pollutants. 

The fields of intervention are:

  • Urban pollution
  • Monitorings of the main pollutants in urban environment regulated according to specific laws (DM 60 2002, D.lgs 183 2004, D.lgs 152 2007) performed through a mobile laboratory. Such pollutants are: NO2, NOx, O3, SO2, CO, PTS, PM10, PM2,5, PM1, benzo(a)pyrene, (H2S NO), heavy metals, HNMC, volatile organic compounds and BTEX.

    The Production Unit has different mobile laboratories for air quality monitoring with equipment for dust sampling and meteorological data collection.

  • This Production Unit has gained a great experience in environmental monitorings of air quality in industrial areas such as areas with handicraft firms, areas subjected to reclamation, road yards, railway yards, etc.

    The environmental control monitorings carried out by DAE in dumpings (D.Lgs 36 2003), incinerators and small, medium or large industrial plants (D.Lgs 59 2005) are of great importance.

    It Division has specific equipment such as instruments for dioxin and other organic pollutant detection, analyzers of methane and nonmethane hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulphide and instruments for monitoring odour compounds.

    Data Analysis and interpretation for the study of air pollutant spreading

    The data collected through the monitorings and processed together with the meteorological data according to specific mathematical models allow the atmospheric pollutant spreading to be determined.

    The PU Technology and Environment has five meteorological stations according to the standards W.M.O.

    All the instruments are managed according to strict quality standards. The calibrations are carried out by our qualified technicians.

    In order to always guarantee the compliance with National or International standards, the instruments are calibrated compared with reference samples certified by SIT (Italian Calibration Service), BCR (Community Bureau of Reference), NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology), NMI etc.
